After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science and English from the University of Toronto in 1983, Owen pursued business studies at the University of Toronto Faculty of Management where he obtained his Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in 1986. With a foundation in political theory and business, Owen entered the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and obtained his Baccalaureate of Law (LL.B.) in 1989. Owen’s articles were completed at the Toronto law firm of Holden Day Murdoch where he apprenticed in civil litigation, corporate-commercial and real estate law.



Having successfully passed the Ontario Bar Exams in the spring of 1991, Owen was admitted to the Bar of Ontario and has been a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada ever since. Prior to opening his practice in Barrie in 1996, Owen worked with the Government of Canada, first in the Competition Bureau where he worked on policy development and investigations and thereafter at Industry Canada where he worked on industrial development in the Canadian sound recording industry as a supplier of digital media to the world wide web.

In addition to practicing law full time, Owen also teaches law clerk courses in estates, corporate, litigation and real estate law as a part time instructor at Georgian College, sits on the board of Directors for the Business Enterprise Resource Network of Barrie South Simcoe and participates in the Georgian College international student exchange program, having provided placements to numerous German exchange students.
